Senior Maintenance Manager
Cartago, Costa Rica, CR

This is a full time position to work in an on-site mode in our Cartago site located in Zona Franca La Lima. Relocation is not available for this job.
Our Production Maintenance Manager is a key team player responsible for the maintenance of production equipment, ensuring all machines are in good working order through preventative and corrective actions, manage a team of technical leads overseeing maintenance for different value streams, ensures that the technical team is properly trained through a documented program and ensures equipment availability to meet production demands.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and knowledge of medical industry compliance standards.
Major Areas of Accountability
Operational Efficiency
- Ensure production equipment operates at peak effectiveness with minimal downtime and within budget.
- Coordinate maintenance procedures and spare parts when machines are transferred or newly built for Cartago.
- Maintain supply of spare parts for corrective and preventive maintenance.
- Perform machine changeovers and train team members in standard work.
- Participate in Lean activities and effective communication during handoffs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and instruments in the maintenance area.
- Develop and maintain standard work procedures and share knowledge with team members.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all maintenance activities align with medical industry regulations.
- Establish machine-specific policies with management and document maintenance activities.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and improvements with the team.
- Follow all documented procedures and processes.
- Comply with the Coloplast Code of Conduct, local compliance standards, and Q/EHS policies.
- Ensure policies are easy to follow and document preventive/corrective activities.
- Identify quality issues and manage preventive maintenance schedules with KPIs.
- Follow safety regulations and promote a positive safety culture with 6S principles.
Budget Management
- Prepare and manage maintenance budget and spare parts inventory.
- Review and forecast maintenance costs based on historical data and future needs.
- Contractor & Vendor Coordination
- Coordinate contractor work, equipment replacement, and manufacturing projects.
Team Management
- Hire, train, and support a high-performing team of technicians.
- Track team goals and performance and communication during handoffs.
- Assist engineering with equipment automation and design changes.
- Conduct performance reviews and support development for Team Leads.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and promote a positive safety culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ensure awareness of their contribution to the effectiveness of the Quality system and the benefits of improved performance
- Ensure awareness of implications for not conforming with Quality requirements
- The identification of needs and preparation of instructions, where necessary.
- Ensuring that the required resources and competences are available.
- Acting if requirements from the quality system and/or regulatory requirements are not complied with.
- Demonstrating responsibility and promote EHS culture.
- Defining responsibility and authority for EHS work
- Ensure that employees receive adequate training
- Ensure awareness of the Quality and Sustainability policy
- Ensure awareness of their contribution to the effectiveness of the EHS system and the environmental performance
- Ensure awareness of implications for not conforming with EHS requirements
- Ensure good conditions related to EHS and prevent occupational injuries/diseases as well as environmental incidents.
- Performing their job in compliance with the guidelines given
- Drawing attention to the manager to any difficulties in understanding or following the guidelines
- Drawing attention to inefficiency of the system
- Take responsibility for those safety aspects identified for the given position
- Support the positive EHS culture
Basic Qualifications
- University degree in Industrial Maintenance / Electromechanics or equivalent.
- 8+ years’ experience in similar positions in maintenance operations management.
- Minimum English level: B2.
- 5+ years' experience in leadership roles.
- 5+ years’ experience in managing a technical team.
- Advance knowledge of MS Office
- Experience in the manufacturing industry
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with internal customers and takes a strategic approach to influence others.
- Must work well in a team-oriented environment and take an active role in developing relationships.
- Ability to lead project meetings and make presentations.
- Able to follow procedures and adhere to safety practices.
- High level of troubleshooting knowledge and skills.
- Expertise with pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical machinery.
- Experience in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
Physical or Other Requirements of the Job
- Ability to lift a minimum of 10kg on a regular basis.
- Must be able to lift 23kg regularly.
- Must be able to stand, kneel or squat for long periods of time.
- Must be able to climb ladders, work at elevated heights and can enter confined spaces.
- Must be able to push/pull over 20kg.
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level.
- Must be able to operate power/hand tools.
