Coloplast Limited is a leading international healthcare company. We are currently recruiting for a Head of Government Affairs & Patient Advocacy.  This role covers the UK and Ireland so will include travel as required for the role, which may include several London visits a month, but will also combine a blend of home working and presence in our Head Office in Peterborough (roughly 25% of the time).

The role:

Reporting to the Director of Payers and Evidence this role leads the UK and Ireland strategic public affairs and communications activity.  The role holder will have direct accountability and responsibility for public affairs, government affairs and patient advocacy.  This is an influential role in our team that provides strategic direction and leadership to our Chronic Care teams.


Essential duties, accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Development of a comprehensive strategic integrated public affairs programme with national level policymakers at the Department of Health and Social Care and the NHS.
  • Maintain, monitor and develop national communication plan for UK/I business in partnership with media and corporate communications with Global colleagues.
  • Horizon scan to keep business updated on latest political and market impacting developments.
  • Maintain and develop stakeholder maps across all business areas in coordination with Market Access, Medical Affairs, Regulatory and Marketing colleagues whenever applicable.
  • Development of third-party advocacy relating to Coloplast specific therapy areas with ability to secure changes to legislation, government policy and its implementation in line with Coloplast priorities and patient needs.
  • Liaison with Market Managers to develop shared strategies in areas where public affairs activity supports business objectives.
  • Influence, build and manage external Public Affairs relationships, proactively identifying opportunities for Coloplast to influence policy development and political decision-making with patient groups.
  • Consistently communicate key policy messages to national decision makers and Parliamentarians across the UK and Ireland.
  • Lead Trade Association engagement and leverage Coloplast strategy through national forums and joint-working groups such as procurement and national pricing initiatives


Qualifications and experience required:


  • Degree qualified, preferably in a health, economics, political, pharmacy or social sciences subject.
  • Experience of leading and delivering innovative and creative public affairs programmes.
  • Detailed understanding of health policy and structures across UK and Ireland with extended knowledge of social care and third sector roles.
  • Detailed knowledge of parliamentary and national policy processes and procedures in Westminster and the Devolved Nations.
  • Detailed knowledge of the policy-making process within government, with evidence of influencing change.
  • Proven track record of working with, and influencing, high profile individuals in politics and the civil service.
  • Excellent persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proven ability to think ahead, engage proactively and take initiative with ability to anticipate and influence future environmental change.
  • Established media relations skills, including crisis and issues management in contentious subjects.
  • Experience of working with international colleagues on pipeline projects.
  • Experience of managing external agency relationships and contracted programmes.
  • Healthcare experience desirable, engagement with senior healthcare leaders and political influencers essential.


To be successful in this role you will be a self-driven individual that strives to exceed expectations with a positive can-do attitude.  You will be highly influential with demonstrable experience in developing and maintaining relationships with National opinion leaders and policy makers.  You will also show highly developed competence in communicating with impact and thinking strategically.
