The job

We are looking for an experienced nurse with relevant clinical skill and who has the passion, drive and commitment to deliver stoma care services within the acute and community. This role covers the Princess Alexandra Hospital and West Essex CCG.

We are looking for a nurse to join our experienced team. The nurse needs to be able to work as an independent practitioner, be self-motivated and have a winning mindset. They need to be a strategic thinker who wants to build on their commercial awareness and skill. The ideal candidate will be a prescribing nurse.

You will provide a community-based ostomy prescription management service to patients within CCG. You will provide expert clinical reviews to support patients/carers’ with their ostomy product usage and will actively promote the Coloplast Services as the preferred service supplier for all patients using ostomy products within the CCG. You will act with integrity and compassion when dealing with fulfilling this role, you will put the patient at the forefront of everything you do.


Typical responsibilities will be to:

• Provide specialist advice and support to patients using products referred from hospital and/or community health care professionals 

• Provide an expert level of professional and clinical care utilizing evidence-based practice in compliance with professional and company standards and guidelines

• Establish and run prescription review clinics in collaboration with the CCG stakeholders

• Undertake an Appliance Use Review (AUR) on each clinical consultation as per company guidelines

• Communicate effectively and provide feedback to referring/managing healthcare professional and the CCG in a timely and efficient manner

•  Effectively and efficiently plan, manage, and organize patient caseload utilizing a patient record and prescription systems

• Maintain clinical records in accordance with Company/Legal and Professional requirements and complete in a timely manner

• Provide a telephone helpline facility for patients and for those referred from the Coloplast Service

• Instigate working practices to ensure collaboration between members of the acute/community health care teams, striving for continuity, cohesion and consistency in patient management and support.

• Instigate/organize patient Open Days, Community Nurse and Nursing Home Meetings etc to promote the prescription service

• Initiate and deliver educational support to health care professionals within acute and community settings

• Undertake service audit/evaluation activities to monitor standards, maintain service provision and identify opportunities for improvement


Education/Experience Required:

• Nursing / Clinical qualifications and experience is essential, together with a current NMC Registration

• Nursing experience related to Ostomy Care is essential

• Nurse prescriber qualification

• Business / Commercial experience is desirable

• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.

• Results and customer focused

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Demonstrate effective time management skills, administrative capabilities, and effective written and oral communication /teaching capabilities

• Full driving licence
