Mechanical or Electrical Technician
Cartago, Costa Rica, CR
This is a permanent-full time position to work in our Cartago site, located in Zona Franca La Lima. Medical insurance, asociation, gym, cafeteria subsidy, free transportation and other, are part of our benefits package.
Our Ramp Up Support Technician is responsible for supporting the ramp-up phase of production machinery and processes. This includes conducting failure analysis, performing basic PLC modifications, setting machine setpoints, and implementing machine improvements to enhance output or operator ergonomics.
Major areas of accountability
Ramp Up:
- Troubleshooting and Analysis: Identifies potential machine failures and recommends basic improvements to enhance machine performance and reliability.
- Problem Solving: Performs basic analysis of machine issues and proposes straightforward ergonomic adjustments or improvements.
- Component and Technology Understanding: Develops foundational knowledge of machine components and technologies to support training activities for technical and operational staff.
- Process Understanding: Understands and supports operational processes, including machine setup, adjustments, and basic changeovers.
- FAT/SAT Support: Assists in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) under supervision, providing basic technical support.
- Validation Support: Provides initial technical support during the validation phase with the Value Stream (VS) team.
- Maintenance Support: Executes preventive and corrective maintenance tasks under supervision.
- Training Delivery: Delivers structured training sessions to technical and operational staff, focusing on machine usage and processes at a fundamental level.
Pneumatics:
- Understands pneumatic and vacuum systems installed in Coloplast machines across more than one Value Stream.
- Reads and interprets all types of pneumatic diagrams, including advanced control diagrams and electrical signals.
- Identifies and resolves pneumatic and vacuum system issues independently, without supervision.
- Recommends and performs upgrades for obsolete components in pneumatic and vacuum systems without supervision.
- Designs and executes preventive maintenance routines without the need for supervision.
Hydraulics:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting advanced mechanical drawings, with basic skills in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Recommends and independently performs the replacement or upgrade of obsolete mechanical components.
- Resolves complex mechanical alignment and leveling issues, performing verifications with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of lubrication, bearings, gearboxes, fixtures, piping, and related mechanical systems.
- Uses and interprets mechanical measuring equipment (digital, analog, and high precision) accurately and effectively.
- Designs and executes maintenance routines autonomously, ensuring system reliability and performance.
Mechanics:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting advanced mechanical drawings, with basic skills in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Recommends and independently performs the replacement or upgrade of obsolete mechanical components.
- Resolves complex mechanical alignment and leveling issues, performing verifications with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of lubrication, bearings, gearboxes, fixtures, piping, and related mechanical systems.
- Uses and interprets mechanical measuring equipment (digital, analog, and high-precision) accurately and effectively.
- Designs and executes maintenance routines autonomously, ensuring system reliability and performance.
Electrical Power:
- Reads and performs basic modifications to unifilar diagrams.
- Independently executes advanced upgrades of power supply equipment and replaces obsolete components.
- Identifies and resolves advanced power supply issues in machinery without supervision.
- Demonstrates full knowledge of all components within power supply systems.
- Performs power supply connections for 50/60 Hz systems, including single-phase, two-phase, and three-phase installations at 480/208 V, 400/230 V, and 208/110 V.
- Designs and executes preventive maintenance routines autonomously, ensuring reliability and performance.
Control & Automation:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting advanced electrical and control diagrams.
- Recommends and independently executes upgrades of sensors, actuators, control components, and obsolete parts.
- Identifies and resolves advanced machine control issues without supervision.
- Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of PLC programming and movement systems, particularly in Allen Bradley and Omron platforms.
- Capable of diagnosing and identifying faults in sensors and associated control systems.
- Designs and executes maintenance routines autonomously, ensuring optimal system performance.
Vision Systems:
- Identifies and resolves intermediate issues in vision systems, performing parameter adjustments without supervision.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of Coloplast’s Vision System programs, including Cognex and CVS.
- Designs and executes maintenance routines autonomously, ensuring proper functionality and reliability of vision systems.
Essential qualifications
- Technical degree in mechanical, electrical, or related fields.
- 2+ years of experience in technical roles, preferably in automated machine environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly in HMI and PLC systems.
- Ability to make basic PLC modifications and adjust machine setpoints.
- Experience in machine installation, maintenance, and process improvement.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including shifts and overtime as needed.
- Commitment to following QA and EHS standards.
Preferred qualifications
- English proficiency at a communicational level (B1+ based on the Common European Framework).
- Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Rockwell, Omron, or Siemens.
- Knowledge of machine ramp-up processes, particularly in regulated industries.
- Experience in process optimization for output and operator ergonomics.
- Participation in FAT and SAT for equipment validation.
- Ability to train and mentor team members effectively.
