Head of Operations Development

Job function summary:
The Head of Operations Development leads, controls, and coordinates all activities within the Operations Development, Maintenance Eng, Technology Improvement, Tool Shop, IT/OT and Transfer/Ramp Up departments. The primary responsibility of Operations Development is to ensure production equipment availability. This includes but is not limited to do ensuring all equipment and processes are documented, equipment and machines are properly maintained and operating as expected. Gives technical support to operations, makes sure to realize transfer plans and activities and ensures IT/OT support to the site. Responsible for complying with the Corporate IT Policy, and successfully implements the IT solutions provided by Coloplast Global IT.Member of the local Management Team of Coloplast Volume Manufacturing Costa Rica.
Major areas of accountability:
• Ensure to comply with and be responsible for enforcing work safety, fire safety and other corporate regulations
• Develop and implement a strategy to ensure Cartago’s production equipment availability which includes a robust maintenance program, and processes to refurbish equipment as required.
• Giving technical support for production to achieve defined production KPIs
• Define and improve technical processes as required
• Ensure the tool shop has the equipment and expertise to support the necessary activities associated with equipment repairs and tooling production.
• Improve and maintain production IT (OT) related processes
• Submitting to management cost savings and efficiency business cases.
• Managing and leading projects, including site transfers
• Responsible for the coordination of all transfer activities and responsible of achieving transfer excellence
• Lead the OD, IT/OD department towards a high performing team based on trust and accountability
• Responsible for the development of competences in the department.
• Participating in the performance improvement of technical indicators
• Optimizing processes with statistical methods
• Representing Operations Development at corporate, professional forums
• Achieving indicators defined by management
• Responsible to document all key processes in the department and make sure it can have scalable solutions
• Perform all other tasks related to the company's activities given by the VP/ General Manager
• Drawing attention to inefficiencies within our processes and systems
• Development of the department based on feedback from people survey, peers and relevant stakeholders
• Implementation of requirements in the corporate quality system
• Clearly defining responsibilities and authority for relevant activities described in the quality system
• Ensure awareness of the Quality policy
• Ensure awareness of their contribution to the effectiveness of the Quality system and the benefits of improved performance
• Ensure awareness of implications for not conforming with Quality requirements
• The identification of need and preparation of instructions, where necessary
• Ensuring that the required resources and competences are available
• Know and act as responsible for the tasks defined in the Quality Manual, within their area
Responsible for:
• Demonstrating responsibility and promote EHS culture.
• Ensure awareness of the Quality and Sustainability EHS policy
• Ensure awareness of their contribution to the effectiveness of the EHS system and the environmental performance
• Ensure awareness of implications for not conforming with EHS requirements
• Ensure good conditions related to EHS and prevent occupational injuries/diseases as well as environmental incidents.
• Performing their job in compliance with the guidelines given
• Drawing attention to the manager to any difficulties in understanding or following the guidelines
• Drawing attention to inefficiency of the system
• Take responsibility for those safety aspects identified for the given position
• Responsible for department department forecast and budget adherance
• Responsible for the creation of Job descriptions and Training plans of all direct reports
• Responsible to request all necessary accesses and specific roles to Coloplast systems for direct reports
Essential qualifications:
• University degree in mechanical Engineer or related field
• 5-10 years of experience in roles of responsibility in Engineering/Maintenance/Process Engineering/Project
• Management experience in highly automated manufacturing environment
• Engineering/Continuous Improvement Initiatives
• Engineering Mechanics and Math calculations knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of MS Office, Power BI and Cognos knowledge is an advantage
• 5-10 years supervisory experience
• English level: B2
Prefer qualifications:
• Materials and heat treatment processes knowledge
• Engineering Thermodynamics and heat transfer knowledge
• Materials properties knowledge, know and understand the properties and characteristics of a wide range of materials including metals, plastics, etc.
• CAD/CAM/CAE knowledge, modeling software as Auto-cad, Inventor, Solidworks knowledge is required
• Structural/CFD software knowledge is desired
• Working principles of metal working machines (CNC and manual mills/lathes, and supporting equipment, etc)
• Mechanical Drawing readings and machine design
• Knowledge of technical terms (Torque, force, Power, RPM, Viscosity, density, Humidity, pressure, heat, Moment of inertia, etc)
• Fluid mechanics and power engineering
• Measuring instruments and tool knowledge (Vernier caliper, micrometer, etc)
• Six sigma and statistical tools knowledge
• Management, Industrial and quality related knowledge
• Basic electrical and electronic knowledge
• Knowledge of refrigeration cycle and cooling units
• PC hardware knowledge (Maintain, upgrade, assembly)
• English level: C1
