Commercial Excellence Associate (Japan)

1. Job Summary / Purpose

The Commercial Excellence Associate acts as a strategic business partner to the Japan leadership team, Sales, and Marketing. The role is responsible for generating high-quality business insights, enabling data-driven decision making, and driving the execution of commercial excellence initiatives. This position plays a critical role in improving business performance by transforming data into clear recommendations, challenging the status quo, and supporting the continuous development of commercial capabilities.


 

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Business Performance Management

  • Business performance management processes, including monthly reviews, KPI tracking, forecasting inputs, and performance deep-dives.
  • Ensure business leaders receive timely, accurate, and actionable insights to support strategic and operational decisions.

B. Reporting & Analytics

  • Own the full reporting lifecycle, including development, maintenance, and distribution of standard dashboards and reports covering sales teams, products, customers, and overall commercial performance.
  • Ensure high data quality through structured validation, clear documentation, and efficient reporting workflows.
  • Continuously enhance reporting tools and approaches to increase efficiency and insights.

C. Annual Business Planning

  • Support the Annual Business Planning process by providing analytical inputs, market insights, scenario modelling, and data-driven recommendations.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure alignment between commercial strategies, financial targets, and resource allocation.

D. Commercial Excellence / Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE)

  • Commercial Excellence initiatives, including segmentation & targeting, territory optimization, and account planning.
  • Provide insights and recommendations that strengthen sales force efficiency and drive improved customer engagement.
  • Monitor implementation and adoption of commercial excellence tools by Sales and Marketing.

E. IT Systems & Tools Development

  • Collaborate with global and local IT teams to design, improve, and implement reporting tools, analytical solutions, and system enhancements.
  • Act as a business representative to ensure tools meet local market needs and enable efficient decision-making.

F. Strategic Projects

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives such as new product launches, investment cases, competitive assessments, and organizational changes.
  • Deliver structured analyses and clear recommendations that guide project teams and leadership decisions.

G. Insights & Ad‑Hoc Analysis

  • Conduct deep-dives into performance trends, customer behavior, market data, and operational challenges.
  • Translate complex datasets into meaningful, easy‑to‑understand narratives and recommendations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve commercial execution, productivity, and data quality.

 

3. Job Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business analysis, commercial excellence, sales operations, finance, or related roles.
  • Proven experience generating insights, conducting structured analyses, and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel skills; strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar BI/visualization tools is a plus.
  • Ability to manage structured and unstructured datasets throughout the full reporting lifecycle.
  • Experience with CRM, market data, or performance management tools is a plus.

Language Requirements

  • Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese, with the ability to present and communicate in both languages.
