Market Access and Government Affairs Manager 

Coloplast has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Market Access and Government Affairs to join our growing team!


The main purpose of this position is to help design, develop and implement reimbursement, government relations and public affairs initiatives that enable optimal market access to Coloplast's innovative medical devices and services. This position reports to the Head of Marketing, based in Ontario, Canada and has a dotted reporting line to the VP of Payors and Evidence based in Minnesota, US. This position will be supported by the expertise of North American and Global Market Access as well as Government Affairs & Patient Advocacy teams.


This position requires developing and maintaining relationships with provincial and federal policy makers, government, public and private payer organizations, patient support groups, clinicians and key opinion leaders, professional societies, and not-for-profit organizations responsible for development and/or implementation of clinical guidelines, hospital administration staff, etc.


By improving patients' access to relevant Coloplast products, your actions will enhance the effectiveness of the sales and marketing groups and further develop the reputation of Coloplast as an innovative, high quality medical device organization that brings high value products to stakeholders in Canada. The incumbent should personify the Coloplast Mission, Values and Vision.


Major Areas of Accountability

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the Canadian health policy and healthcare systems within high priority provinces and federal programs
  • Implement a strategic Market Access plan for Coloplast Chronic Care products developed in collaboration with the global colleagues and external consultants
  • Coordinate implementation of public relations and government affairs strategies in collaboration with global colleagues and external consultants
  • Help guide the development of value arguments and supporting health economic and budget impact models
  • Partner with North American/Global teams to adapt global/US value propositions to the Canadian market
  • Prepare relevant submissions to gain positive outcomes from public and private payers and formularies
  • Ensure all relevant scientific/sales/and business data is integrated into advocacy materials
  • Help identify key opinion leaders (KOLs) and their organizational relationships in key stakeholder groups (payer, patient and health care professionals)
  • Initiate relationships with provincial governmental staff who influence healthcare policy and budget decisions


Basic Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian healthcare systems
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience of working in the medical device industry; knowledge of the Coloplast business and products is strongly preferred
  • In-depth understanding of the framework, governance and motivation of Canadian industry associations and patient support groups
  • Understanding of the pricing/reimbursement environment and the government/payer review process within the medical device/life science industry
  • Ability to develop, interpret and translate clinical and economic evidence into payer messages
  • Strong track record in establishing relationships with health care professionals
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in political science, government affairs, health policy or related discipline
  • Understanding of provincial and private payer budget decision making process and stakeholders
  • Ability to review and analyze business and medical data
  • Ability to work competently in software programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
  • Ability and willingness to travel (up to 25%, fluctuates on business needs)

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with intricate planning and strong tactical execution within a matrix, cross-functional environment
  • Prioritize effectively and manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills, entrepreneurial attitude
  • Fluent bilingually (in English and French) strongly preferred.
