Facilities Technician 

Coloplast has a new opportunity available in North Mankato, MN for a Facilities Technician to join our team. Positions salary range from $42,000-$60,000. As a full time Coloplast employee, you have the opportunity to become eligible for our standard benefit package which currently includes health insurance, dental, vision, a 401K plan, and a PTO plan of 17 days per year. 

 

 As the Facilities technician you will be responsibilities for facility management including:

  • Assume responsibility for issues concerning building, surrounding grounds, supplies (electrical, gas, water) and waste handling and removal. Assure local facility compliance with applicable legal environmental requirements and QMS controlled documents related to facility’s ISO 14001 certification.
  • Highly involved in all aspects of planning and execution of facilities building projects including projects within Manufacturing environments.
  • Directs and oversees the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the building equipment in order to keep building assets at the highest degree of care, value and reliability.
  • Works closely with the Director of Manufacturing on building initiatives and facilities project planning as well as with other stakeholder groups regarding projects and initiatives that intersect with building equipment and systems.

 

Major Areas of Accountability

•  Facility Management Responsibilities:

  • Building and surrounding grounds
  • HVAC systems:  Operation and maintenance, including systems in production (clean rooms)
  • Utility and energy management (Electrical, gas, water)
  • Fire Sprinkler, security and alarm systems, maintenance, including fire extinguishers
  • Treatment of Waste Water from production
  • Disposal of garbage and waste, including empty containers and packaging materials, rejected products, and hazardous waste
  • Maintains building heating and cooling systems, including chillers, boilers, AHU’s, fans, motors, pumps, hot water steam/systems, valves, and filters; electrical systems, direct digital controls, emergency back-up systems, fire/life safety, roofing and structural systems, and other mechanical equipment plus associated controls. Performs repairs and oversees maintenance and upgrades to these systems.
  • Strategizes, plans and coordinates facilities work for shut downs, capital projects, installations, construction, and building projects. Directs activities and manages contractors to ensure all activities are executed and completed per specifications. Ensures contractors follow all procedures and safety requirements.
  • Manages preventative maintenance activities and recommends tasks and schedules, along with manufacturer’s required service specifications, for a wide variety of equipment.
  • Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections or directs contractors to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
  • Responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes approved plant shutdown and start-up procedures, and assures that the plant meets operational, environmental and safety commitments.
  • Works with the Building Operations Manager and EHS personnel on facilities projects and FM Global initiatives related to the facility, as well as carbon dioxide reduction strategies and energy savings initiatives.

 

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Documentation for activity plans to reach local objectives and targets, and Global FM Targets
  • Monitor and document compliance with environmental approvals and legislation
  • Creates, contributes, and adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP) established for the critical environments. Maintains strict compliance with all Federal, State and Local codes, regulations and standards.
  • Navigates, configures, monitors, and troubleshoots building automation systems for proper control of building and clean rooms. Maintains proper operation during seasonal changes and recalibrates controls based on seasonal conditions to ensure energy efficient operation. Ensures clean room maintains tolerance per SOP. Manages required SOP documentation and presents reporting during environmental audits.
  • Identifies savings opportunities for maintenance activities and projects.
  • Operates in a safe and environmentally efficient manner. Reports unsafe conditions immediately. Performs lockout/tagout where appropriate. Performs all assigned work as to ensure the safety of self, buildings, and employees and the continuous operation of the facility.
  • Complete annual review of environmental mapping
  • Train in and use current Maintenance Database Systems
  • Training to internal environmental documents:  Environmental Manual, Procedures and Instructions.
  • Other related responsibilities as assigned

 

Relationships and Contacts:

  • Works closely with engineering staff, R&D, and Manufacturing on Production and clean room projects. Recommends strategies and identifies specifications for building related equipment within Manufacturing and R&D environments.
  • Communication / contact with external suppliers

 

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Excellent written & oral English communication skills
  • Basic to advanced computer skills
  • Willingness to be on call for emergencies
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis, able to lift 50 pounds periodically
  • Must be able to push / pull over 50 pounds, able to operate power/hand tools, and general shop equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or higher strongly preferred
  • 10+ years in building maintenance experience along with clean room/GMP environment experience.
  • Special Class Boiler Operator License.
  • Industrial Waste Water experience at previous manufacturing organization
  • Proven experience with operating and maintaining various building and HVAC systems and CMMS.
  • Maintenance vocational training
