Legal Counsel (Contract)

The Interim Legal Counsel contractor will be supporting the Advanced Wound Dressings/Kerecis business located in Arlington, VA. Contractor will provide general legal support, with a focus on commercial support of medical device sales contracting with hospitals and Group Purchasing Organizations and advising on related medical device industry specific issues. The need is for 20-30 hours a week, and the length of assignment is anticipated to be 3-6 months. The role will be 100% remote. 

Major Areas of Accountability
The Coloplast North America Legal team advises leaders and employees within the North America business units of: Chronic Care (Continence & Ostomy), Advanced Wound Dressings/Kerecis; Interventional Urology, Voice & Respiratory Care/Atos, and Durable Medical Equipment providers, on a wide variety of legal issues and matters involving multiple substantive areas of law. These areas include general corporate, litigation, employment, business, and commercial issues as well as industry specific issues. The team provides counsel, guidance, legal and contract support, and strategic business partnership in a highly regulated and complex legal environment that spans the medical technology and medical supply service (Durable Medical Equipment) industries.

 

The team advises business clients on industry specific issues in the US and Canada including: the Federal Anti-kickback Statute (AKS), the False Claims Act (FCA), HIPAA, Privacy, Marketing and Promotional issues, FDA and Regulatory issues, Quality issues, Discount Safe-Harbor and other laws related to the sales of medical devices, Compliance issues, Clinical issues, Reimbursement issues, Medicare billing and provider issues, and other federal, state, and Canadian laws applicable to a medical device manufacturer or durable medical equipment supplier.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from US accredited law school
  • Licensed attorney in the US, admitted to the Bar in at least one jurisdiction
  • Minimum 5-10 years legal experience as a practicing attorney
  • Working knowledge of medical device industry and specific legal issues applicable to a medical device business operating in the US
  • Experience negotiating and drafting a variety of types of commercial contracts, including medical device or pharma industry sales contracts
  • Previous experience providing legal support for a medical device or pharmaceutical company
