Senior Simulation Engineer

Location:

Humlebæk, DK

Job Family:  Research & Development
Country/Region:  Denmark

Are you motivated by using state-of-the-art simulation tools to deepen product understanding and influence the design of complex products? Do you thrive in a senior role where you combine advanced analysis with technical leadership and capability building? We offer a unique opportunity to shape the future of virtual modeling in Coloplast and make a visible impact on how we develop new products.

In 1957 Elise Sørensen came up with the idea of the Ostomy bag, driven by the urge to make life better for people with a specific intimate healthcare problem. Today, 68 years later, Coloplast serves more than 2.000.000 users around the globe with vital products for daily usage.

R&D is where all new product innovations are shaped for success, defined, developed and delivered for manufacturing in millions of products for centuries.

You will become a part of Engineering Analysis where functional & robust design ensures the quality of mechanical specifications and design documentation.

We use state-of-the-art tools and processes, aiming for best practices in our work, and we are the voice of Engineering Analysis in the R&D organization and beyond.

More specifically you will be working In the Virtual Modeling team.

The job
You will work closely with colleagues in the Virtual Modeling team, Mechanical Design engineers, and key stakeholders across R&D to drive development of innovative products. In this senior role, you will lead the structural modeling perspective in development projects and help shape how simulation is used to support robust, data-driven decisions across the product lifecycle. You will strengthen our understanding of critical interfaces in our products and identify the parameters with the greatest impact on product performance. I

n some cases, Mechanical Design engineers will provide designs for you to assess and optimize; in others, you will proactively build models that create fundamental insight into product behavior and development trade-offs for relevant stakeholders. We take a practical approach to problem-solving, for example by using simplified linear models to enable early design decisions, while more advanced non-linear models and interactions are applied in detailed performance studies.  In the role of Senior Simulation Engineer, validating, improving, and industrializing our predictive methods will be a key part of your contribution.

Communicating your findings in a simple and actionable manner is vital to succeeding in the job. Our strategy in R&D strongly focuses on virtual modeling, and we want to expand our capabilities to an even higher level and use numerical analysis more actively in developing new products. As a Senior Structural Simulation Engineer, you will play a leading role in defining and implementing our ambitions for the Virtual Modeling team in the coming years, while mentoring others and driving best practices across projects.

Your key responsibilities are:
•    Lead structural simulation activities that generate actionable insight into the key parameters and interactions identified together with stakeholders.
•    Drive both simple and advanced parameter analyses that support critical design decisions across multiple development projects.
•    Translate simulation results into clear, data-driven design recommendations that influence project direction and technical decisions.
•    Take a leading role in developing internal methods, processes, and best practices across Virtual Modeling and Mechanical Engineering.
•    Act as a technical role model by building expertise in polymer behavior, strengthening our material library, and sharing knowledge across teams.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the job possesses the following qualifications:
•    Extensive experience with simulations using the finite element method, ideally 5+ years in an industrial R&D environment.
•    Proven experience in creating, calibrating, and validating polymer material models across a range of polymer systems.
•    Master of Science in Engineering or Natural Sciences with specialization in numerical analysis of complex problems.
•    Deep knowledge of structural simulations and hands-on experience with one or more commonly used finite element software packages.
•    Solid understanding of product development processes and the ability to influence technical decisions across project phases.
•    Experience with interdisciplinary teamwork, stakeholder management, and mentoring or guiding colleagues in technical work.

You are most likely to have a background in mechanical engineering or a related discipline and bring strong experience in numerical simulation from an industrial development environment. You combine deep technical expertise with sound engineering judgement and are motivated by solving complex problems with tangible business impact. We value honesty and open feedback and are looking for a collaborative senior profile who can challenge assumptions, communicate insights with clarity, and build credibility across disciplines. If you are motivated by influencing both technical direction and the continued development of virtual modeling capabilities, this position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a visible difference.
