R&D Roadmap Manager

Location:

Humlebæk, DK

Job Family:  Research & Development
Country/Region:  Denmark

Are you interested in joining one of the world’s most successful MedTech companies and helping shape its future? Would you like to play a key role in defining where R&D should focus next – working across strategy, technology, and commercial functions? If so, we encourage you to explore this opportunity as R&D Roadmap Manager at Coloplast.

Coloplast is strengthening its R&D innovation funnel to ensure a strong, de‑risked, and strategically aligned future pipeline. We are looking for a Roadmap Manager to help shape what we work on, why it matters, and what “good” looks like – before early development begins.

Acting as a key integrator, you will translate strategy, user needs, technology, and commercial ambition into clear, decision‑ready R&D roadmaps and early development scoping packages. You will work closely with R&D leadership, strategy, technology development, product development, manufacturing, commercial functions, and external partners.

Why this role matters – and why you should join Coloplast R&D
Coloplast is one year into its new corporate strategy, Impact4 – a growth strategy that requires R&D to strengthen how opportunities enter the innovation funnel. This means systematically identifying and shaping opportunities before early development begins, with a clear view of long‑term pipeline value.

After 12–18 months, success looks like fewer late re‑scoping cycles in early development, clearer alignment between strategy, technology, and development priorities, and more deliberate early investment decisions.

Your daily responsibilities
1. Translating strategy into opportunity direction
Together with cross‑company stakeholders, you turn corporate and R&D strategy into clear, actionable opportunity directions, answering questions such as:
What user needs and problems should R&D solve next?
Where should we invest – and where should we not?
What is the high‑level scope and ambition of an opportunity?

This role is about strategic focus and decision readiness – not detailed project planning.

Before R&D commits resources to cost‑intensive product development, you ensure that:
User needs are clearly articulated
Solution hypotheses are explicit (not implicit)
Commercial ambition and value logic are understood
Key assumptions, constraints, and risks are visible

This enables early “no”, “not yet”, or “pivot” decisions – at low cost.

2. Owning and maintaining R&D roadmaps
Unlike pipeline plans or project plans, R&D roadmaps:
Are high‑level and directional
Focus on why and what, not timelines
Align strategy, user needs, technology, and manufacturing intent

You ensure roadmaps are:
Coherent across opportunity areas
Actively used in portfolio and investment discussions
Trusted inputs when handed over to early development Scoping teams

3. Enabling smooth handover to early development (Scoping)
When opportunities move forward, you ensure Scoping receives:
A shared understanding of the problem being solved
High‑level scopes and boundary conditions to prevent downstream scope creep
Clear articulation of needs, assumptions, and constraints

Expected qualifications
Contribution to team dynamics:
Open‑minded, honest, and engaged team member
Willing to share insights, perspectives, and learnings
Curious and proactive in seeking internal and external inspiration
Patient and persistent in driving R&D roadmaps across stakeholders

Professional expertise:
Experience combining user needs and commercial thinking with novel inventions and technology development
Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to operate independently
Experience with R&D and product development in pharma or MedTech is a plus, but not required

Academic background:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, business, strategy, or a scientific discipline
Applied experience and skills are highly valued

Language skills:
Fluent written and spoken English
Danish is not required

Position is onsite at Coloplast HQ in Humlebæk, North Zealand, Denmark
