Head of Test Development Engineering
Product Development, R&D — Coloplast, Humlebæk
Do you want to lead the team that turns product ideas into testable, measurable and manufacturable realities — and build an engineering and scientific capability that pushes the boundaries of how we develop and verify products?
Then grab this opportunity to join one of the best-performing medical device companies in the world and help make a difference for people with intimate healthcare needs across the globe.
“We are bringing Test Development Engineering together as a stronger professional home — one that works hand in hand with our business area project teams. We believe this combination of strong professional leadership and close BA collaboration will bring sharper engineering and scientific thinking into testing activities, from early design iterations to Design Verification, and will be key to how we deliver more efficiently in Product Development.” — Mikael Kruszewski, Senior Director, Product Development
About Coloplast and Chronic Care R&D
You will join Chronic Care R&D, headed by EVP Rasmus Just, and become part of Product Development — the function that turns scoped opportunities and technologies into market-ready products. Product Development brings together mechanical, materials, adhesives, chemical, test and project management specialists across the Chronic Care and Bowel Care business areas. Test Development Engineering is the cross-cutting professional home for our test development and prototype engineering discipline, serving all of them.
Lead and grow a multi-disciplinary test development capability
This is a leadership role with a significant opportunity to shape the test development capabilities — together with the Product Development leadership team and in close collaboration with domain specialists, project managers and business area stakeholders. As Head of Test Development Engineering, you will lead a team of Test Development Engineers and Prototype Engineering Specialists that serves projects across Ostomy Care, Bowel Care, Continence Care, Wound Care and offline process controls.
The team is mechanics-heavy and also includes adhesives and chemistry specialists. Test Development Engineering works at the interface between the specialists developing products, materials, adhesives or formulations and the evidence needed to show that they perform as intended. Sometimes this means working hand in hand with Mechanical Design Engineers on forces, fixtures, tolerances and manufacturability. Other times it means translating material or chemical domain knowledge into testable, reproducible evidence. The Prototype Engineering Specialists add prototype planning, configuration and traceability — helping projects get the right prototypes at the right maturity level for learning, verification and clinical or manufacturing needs.
Take test development to the next level
You will lead the team in exploring and applying a broad toolbox for test development. Sometimes the right answer is a simple mechanical test; other times it may require new fixtures, automation, simulation, AI, chemical or material characterisation, or inline testing. The goal is always the same: the right evidence, at the right time, to support the right decision.
More specifically, you will:
- Lead and further develop the Test Development Engineering group, including Test Development Engineers and Prototype Engineering Specialists
- Set direction for the team's mandate, interfaces, priorities and ways of working across Product Development
- Develop capabilities across mechanical, material, adhesive and chemical test development, prototype planning, fixtures, equipment, automation, robotics, simulation and AI
- Engage directly with Product Development projects to understand test challenges, unblock technical decisions and ensure test solutions are fit for purpose
- Strengthen early collaboration with domain specialists, Test Engineers, Systems Engineers and manufacturing stakeholders — tightening the connection between design intent, testability, prototype maturity and reliable evidence creation in a regulated environment
- You will be the voice of Test Development Engineering in Product Development, helping the organisation understand where the capability creates the most value. You will develop people, roles and ways of working so the team can grow from a set of strong individual contributors into a mature, high-performing engineering and scientific discipline.
- You will have a seat at the Product Development leadership table and the mandate to shape a discipline that is still being defined — a rare opportunity to leave a lasting mark on how Coloplast develops products.
Your background
We imagine that you have a strong technical foundation and a genuine passion for product development, testing and problem solving.
Must-haves
- A relevant degree in engineering, science or a similar technical discipline
- Proven experience with people, project or technical leadership — or strong, demonstrated motivation to lead specialists
- Product development experience from a regulated industry — medical devices, pharma, in-vitro diagnostics or an equivalent regulated environment
- Ability to communicate clearly, navigate stakeholders across R&D and business areas, and create clarity across disciplines
Nice-to-haves
- Working understanding of how product design, materials, adhesives, chemistry, prototypes, fixtures, equipment and verification activities connect
- Experience with, or clear interest in, simulation, automation, robotics, AI or data-driven approaches to testing
- Exposure to Design Verification and design controls in a Class II/III medical device context
- Most importantly, you are motivated by building capability. You enjoy helping specialists succeed, developing new ways of working and turning a promising capability into a strong engineering and scientific discipline. You'll join a collaborative, curious R&D environment where good ideas are heard regardless of where they come from.
