Hosting Team & Department
Coloplast R&D/Center of Excellence / engineering analysis. The student will be enrolled in the ongoing activities and discussions within the Simulation Team, focusing on virtual prototyping and modelling.
Project Description
Accurate material models are essential for predicting the mechanical performance of polymer-based medical products.
This project focuses on extending the material modeling capabilities of Altair Radioss by implementing and developing advanced hyperelastic constitutive models capable of capturing a broader range of polymer behaviors than the standard models currently available. The work will follow a multi-stage approach: first, existing Radioss material models will be implemented and validated to establish a robust benchmark and ensure correct integration within the simulation framework. Building on this foundation, more generalized hyperelastic formulations will be developed and calibrated against experimental material data.
The objective is to improve the representation of complex polymer responses encountered in polymer-based products, enabling more accurate and reliable simulations. The project combines constitutive model development, numerical implementation, parameter identification, and validation through finite element analysis.
The resulting framework will provide greater flexibility for material characterization, support predictive product design, and strengthen simulation-driven development of future medical device solutions.

Recommended prerequisites are:
- Hands-on experience with the Finite Element Methods (e.g. course 41525/41815 at DTU)
- Strength of material II (41502 at DTU, or similar)
- Programming experience with Matlab, fortran, or Python
