The Automation Engineer is instrumental in driving efficiency and innovation within the Operations Development Department. As a dedicated specialist, he leads initiatives to simplify and automate processes, ensuring that operational excellence is achieved.
This role requires close collaboration with various specialists to identify and implement opportunities for machine improvements, focusing on critical areas such as quality, scrap reduction, performance optimization and the implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.
The Automation Engineer is also responsible for supporting the Operations Department in resolving critical issues that require additional technical expertise not available within their team. The objective is that correct and timely production remains the top priority for everyone in COLOPLAST.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Carrying out, organizing and managing the daily technical and technological development tasks within the Operations Development Department
- Developing and introducing new technologies, mapping existing technologies and expanding and documenting related knowledge
- Suggest improvements to increase the availability of machinery
- Suggest improvements to increase automation levels
- Participate in projects to reduce production and process scrap
- Participate in projects to increase productivity of equipment and processes
- Participate in safety improvements
- Participate in projects for production equipment modernization and technical support for retrofit projects
- Transfer of electrical designs of production equipments to E-Plan
- Solve simple and complex everyday problems
- Plan, coordinate and execute project activities, including software design, coding, testing, and deployment
- Manage/Coordinate projects related to the development of PLC controlled production machines equipped with vision and robot systems
- Support Operations Team with troubleshooting and ensure the continued availability of the production machines
- Support Operations Team with troubleshooting and operation of new technical solutions implemented in the production equipment
- Support the operation of PLC controlled production machines equipped with vision and robot systems
- Conduct code and design reviews to maintain high development standards and practices
- Liaising with external partners as required for technology development tasks
- Budgeting solutions
- Ensuring documentation of tasks and changes implemented
- Monitoring the sustainability of developments
- Preparing and publishing reports on technological development tasks.

Essential Qualifications:
|
- Degree in Electrotechnics or Automation, with minimum 5 years of work experience in related position
- Good communication skills, both written and spoken, in English. Level: B1 – Intermediate (based on the Common European Framework)
- Knowledge of PLC programming in at least one of the following platforms: Rockwell, Omron, Siemens and Schneider (RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, CX Programmer, Simatic Step 7, Machine Expert)
- Specific knowledge in Allan Bradley and Schnider PLC programing is preferred
- Knowledge of Servo motion programming in at least one of the following technologies: Kinetix, Accurax , Elau, SEW, Trio, AMK, Indramat and Sigma Drives
- Knowledge of Robot programming in at least one of the following technologies: Denso, ABB and KUKA
- Vision system programing knowledge is preferred (Cognex and Omron)
- HMI knowledge is preferred;
- Ability to create/Update electrical schematics (E-plan)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic)
- Knowledge of interpreting pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams is preferred
- Able to install and uninstall electrical components
- Experience in maintaining automated industrial machines
- Experience in Project Management, is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to details
- Good communications skills and a Team player
- Flexibility and ability to handle stressful periods
- Proactive desire for learning and knowledge sharing

Physical or other job requirements:
- Able to work other shifts and overtime as needed to complete tasks
- Willing to be on call to support production needs (Call-In Service)
- Recurrent travelling during the first year (up to some consecutive weeks)
